Hands-on-History School Days
Interact with historical figures and experience many educational activities during this event. Numerous learning stations offer first person stories and multicultural performances while providing interactive interpretation of local, regional and national history for students. The event is designed to provide support for Minnesota State Curriculum Standards. Students are exposed to a variety of skills and art forms that are not commonly seen in everyday life.
6th Grade Programs, February - March
While learning about Minnesota History, sixth grade classes are invited to take a closer look at Rochester's development with a one-hour guided tour of the Mayowood Mansion.
2nd Grade Programs, April - the first week in June
The curriculum unit on immigration, transportation, and early settlement includes a field trip to the History Center where students take part in such as planting the World Garden.
3rd Grade Programs
Third grade students learn the story of early Olmsted County settlement, and the beginnings of St. Marys Hospital and the Mayo Clinic. Included are visits to the Dee Log Cabin and Hadley Valley Schoolhouse, where the children learn more about a child's life at home and at school.
