*Note: to register your class for Hands-On-History 2008, go to the registration information page, Hands-On-History Registration.

Planning Your Visit:Planning your visit

  • On September 18 and 19, please plan on arriving between 9:00 am and 9:30 am. On September 25 and 26, please plan on arriving at least fifteen minutes earlier than your projected start time in order to store lunches, receive orientation material, schedule and map, and move your class to their first educational station. Please keep this in mind when figuring the total time of your visit.
  • The number of stations you visit depends on the length of your visit. You will be scheduled into the learning stations with a consideration for variety and the ages of your students. You have an opportunity on the form to designate stations that you do not want to attend and any other concerns you have.
  • Classes will be assigned on a first come - first serve basis. Register early for the best class assignments. School groups who want to attend together should sign up on the same day to be sure of getting the day that they want. Friday usually fills up first.
  • Although shopping is available in the museum gift shop, one general store by the lunch area and one store at the southwest farm, these areas can be crowded. If students shop in the museum, they must be respectful of classes that are being held in the museum. Shopping can be a part of students 1/2 hour lunch break, or in the lull between stations.
  • Feel free to bring sack lunches and coolers. We will provide a picnic shelter and a large tent. The History Center has pop ($1.25 a bottle) and candy ($.10 - $1.00).
  • You MUST bring two adults for every class group.
  • Please have children dress appropriately for the weather. This is an outdoor event. If inclement weather is forecasted, remind children to bring raingear or a plastic garbage bag for a make-shift raincoat.
