Volunteering

The History Center of Olmsted County is supported by a dedicated group of volunteers who are active in all aspects of History Center operations. Retirees, high school students, families, business and professional people, young adults and teachers are among those who donate their time. Our mission as, "Olmsted County's Storyteller", can only be accomplished with the help of our volunteers.

What can I do?
Whether you contribute your efforts to a single event or project or to our many ongoing programs and projects, you will have a lasting impact and inspire others to do the same. With so much property to maintain and a large collection to catalogue and preserve there are endless opportunities for volunteers. You can help us by providing service to visitors or working behind the scenes.

Volunteers play an active role in bringing history to life. Whether you are a Docent for the education department, or a guide at Mayowood, the stories you share bring a piece of history to life. By cataloguing and preserving our collection, both in the archives and the curatorial department you are helping to assure the future by preserving the past.

Our maintenance department offers volunteer opportunities which will provide valuable hands on experience in the Building Utilities Maintenance field.

Every effort is made to match your interests and abilities with the needs of the History Center. In addition, all volunteers have the opportunity to attend Society events, learn about Olmsted County and spend time with others who love history.
