Specialty Tours at Historic Mayowood are limited-time themed experiences that enhance your regular guided tour by exploring unique stories, artifacts, and perspectives from the Mayo family legacy.

Included with admission at no additional cost, these seasonal tours are perfect for both first-time and returning visitors looking to experience Mayowood in a new way.

Each year, our team carefully researches and develops a new theme that highlights fascinating stories and unique connections to the history of Mayowood.

 

Current Specialty Tour:

“Stories of Service” (July 2026)

Celebrate America's 250th anniversary at Mayowood! Throughout the month of July, every regular guided house tour will include our special feature, Stories of Service, at no additional charge. In addition to the full Mayowood house tour, you will learn about the Mayo family’s deep commitment to country and their longstanding tradition of military and public service.

Your visit includes:

  • A one-hour guided tour led by knowledgeable guides
  • Exploration of the historic 38-room Mayowood estate
  • Engaging stories about the Mayo family's lives, world travels, and lasting impact on Rochester
  • Original furnishings, artifacts, and décor collected from around the world
  • Beautiful scenic grounds and gardens to enjoy before or after your tour

July Specialty Features:

  • Learn about Dr. Charlie’s service as an officer in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army during WWI
  • Hear Dr. Chuck’s letters to Alice that he wrote while stationed in New Guinea 
  • See Mayo artifacts from WWII
  • Learn about the Mayo women’s public service
